Family Counselling
Family Counselling
I am proud to offer family counselling sessions to familial groups that are struggling, handling changes or facing conflict. I do not have family therapy training, so I am not a family therapist; I am a family counsellor based on my years of experience working with families facing difficulties and my training in mental health, counselling and mental well-being.
The purpose of family counselling is to enable all family members to improve communication, coexist in a mutually supportive space, strengthen bonds, explore underlying issues and current patterns of interpersonal relationships.
Family counselling sessions will be tailored to your family’s specific needs. However, they will follow the essential timetable of 2 sessions with all family members, 1 individual session for each family member, and 2 further sessions with all family members. This gives your family space to discuss the main difficulties, express themselves privately, and finally regroup and work out how to move forward.
Family counselling can be useful for any group of people who regard themselves as a family, irrespective of who makes up that family. This can be a blended family with members who are step, adopted, or half relatives; it can be members of an extended family; members of a polyamorous relationship; families with married parents, single parents, or cohabiting parents.
During the sessions, we will talk through the problems being faced, the conflict this creates, as well as the emotions that are connected to it. The sessions will work best if everyone contributes, and it is my role to ensure everyone’s voice is heard. You should be prepared to learn views and opinions you disagree with.
Ultimately, we will aim for positive, lasting change within the family dynamics.
