My name is Lyn O’Callaghan.
I understand that choosing a counsellor from a short profile and photo can feel like a significant and sometimes uncertain step. Because of this, I see our initial consultation as a space for you to decide whether I feel like the right person for you, and for me to ensure I have the appropriate experience and skills to support you.
There is no obligation to continue after this first meeting. Any decision about working together will always be guided by you, your needs, and what feels right for you.
I believe that the difficulties we experience with our mental health are episodes within our lives, rather than fixed identities. My role as a counsellor is to support you in building resilience, self-confidence, and self-esteem, so that life feels more manageable and less overwhelming.
I am a Chrysalis-trained counsellor and hold the following qualifications:
AIM Awards Level 3 in Hypnotherapy & Counselling Skills
AIM Awards Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
BA (Hons) in Childhood & Youth Studies
PGDip in the Psychology of Mental Health & Wellbeing
I have over 30 years’ experience working with children, young people, parents, and adults.
I am an integrative counsellor, primarily using person-centred therapy, while also drawing on approaches such as CBT, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, and journaling where appropriate. This allows me to tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach.
I offer a flexible range of ways to work together, including face-to-face sessions, walk-and-talk therapy, telephone, video, email, and instant messaging sessions. This allows you to choose the format that feels most comfortable and accessible for you.
I adhere to the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) Code of Ethics and hold full enhanced DBS checks for both children and vulnerable adults.
