Hello… How can I help?
If you have time constraints that mean you do not have space in your schedule to travel to and from a session, or small children to organise care for, or simply do not wish to sit opposite your counsellor when discussing topics that can be difficult or deeply upsetting, then telephone counselling could be right for you.
Telephone is like IM or email counselling, in that it takes place in real time, and we would not see each other. You do not need any special equipment, except a landline or mobile phone. We will arrange a time for the session to begin as normal and I will call you at that time, so there is no additional cost to you.
Your security is my priority and, unfortunately, telephone counselling may not be suitable for you if you do not have a private space that gives you the freedom to have our session. It is important you can have your session with me without anyone else overhearing and be able to give your full attention to the process. (i.e., not watching telly/children or at working etc).
How does telephone counselling work?
This form of counselling takes place in real-time.
I will call you at an agreed time on an agreed day
We will talk for 50 minutes
This is a safe space for you to discuss any areas of your life that you want to.
As a person-centred counsellor, I will work with whatever you bring to the session that day. Your counselling goals are a plan for the sessions, not the only focus.
Advantages of Telephone counselling
You do not have to have any special equipment for the session
You do not have to travel to my office
Disadvantages of Telephone counselling
You need to ensure you are in a private space and not distracted
Not being face-to-face can lead to some misunderstandings within the therapeutic conversation
